Interview met Marv Wolfman 17-07-2007 :
In The Netherlands your only work we had was the Tarzan episode from Disney and perhaps one or more John Carter comics (I have to check them).
About the Disney episode :
Ron : Whose idea was it to have an episode dedicated to Pres. Roosevelt?
Marv : Me. I always admired Roosevelt. Also, I went through old issues of
National Geographic and found the article he'd written for it on his
trip to Africa. That gave me the idea to pitch it.
Ron : Did you have any freedom in creating the story?
Marv : Pretty much. I came up with the idea. We went through the traditional
development process and then I scripted it.
Ron :Were there any rules on how the story has to be written?
Marv : It had to fit into the other Disney Tarzan shows in terms of
characters, approach, etc., but aside from that, no. I had seen and
had loved the animated Tarzan movie so I already had a good idea how
to do it.
Ron: How long did you worked on this episode?
Marv : A few weeks.
By the way, I live in Tarzana and on property
Burroughs himself wrote on, according to his Grandson, Danton, as
well as my neighbor. I've written lots of Burroughs comics.
