Holland meets ERB - Tarzan

 

In 1912 Allstory gave the people from the US the possibillity to meet Tarzan. Holland had to wait until 1919. In this year the first Tarzan movie with Elmo Lincoln was shown. One year later people could read the story for the first time.

Novels

John and Alice Clayton (Lord and Lady Greystoke) are on their way from England to to Africa by boat. After a mutiny they were set on land in an un civilised part of the West African coast. Clayton built a cabin where Alice gave birth to their son John Jr.
One year later Alice passed away. Some time later Clayton would be killed by Kerchak. Kala who lost his own son noticed the baby and takes him with her and calls him "Tarzan" meaning White Skin.

Comics and Newspaper trips

The first comic was released in october 1937 as a free door to door commercial book in Delft. It contained the story Return of Tarzan created with the daily strips from Rex Maxon. Ten years later the very first (illegal) comic would be released. In 1958 another publisher released illegal Tarzan comics. In 1958 ERB Inc. sued the publisher who immediatelly stopped publishing these comics and changed over to the original dailie s and sundays from Bob Lubbers and John Celardo.

Theatre

An overview of all movies, actors and stage plays. Many years ago the movies with Johnny Weissmuller were extremely popular. Do you remember the famous call "Umgawa" ? Nowadays the youth grows up with the Disney version of the Tarzan story, a modern version of the story of ERB. Besides these films you can also find the illegal Tarzan movies and related movies like Hawk of the Wilderness, Jungle Jim and Bomba movies.
At this moment Constantin Film works on a new Tarzan 3D Movie .
