Zes jaar nadat het Tarzan verhaal ongekend populair werd, zagen de filmproducenten hier ook brood in. Zij brachten in 1918 de eerste Tarzan film uit. Ook dit werd een ongekend succes; de eerste film met een opbrengst van een miljoen dollar. In Nederland ging het net andersom, hier werden de mensen door deze film bekend gemaakt met Tarzan.
Tarzan was echter niet de eerste film die gemaakt was van een van de werken van Edgar Rice Buroughs. Een jaar eerder (1917) ging de film The Lad and the Lion in premiere. Momenteel is Tarzan erg druk bezocht in het theater in de vorm van een musical.
6 years after becoming a popular story, movie producers thought that Tarzan could be a succes on the white screen too. In 1918 the first Tarzan movie came out. And this movie became a huge success , it was the first movie which grossed more than 1 million dolars. Here in Holland it started just in a different way. Here, people met Tarzan in the cinema and not in the books.
Tarzan was not the first movie made out of a work of Edgar Rice Burroughs. One year sooner (1917), the movie The Lad and the Lion had itrs opening show. At this moment Tarzan is well visited in the theatre as the Tarzan can be seen as a musical.
